De-cluttering Tips

(February 04, 2015 )

Starting with baby steps formulate a plan and set up some free time. Set up the 3 bin system...garbage, recycling & charity.

Clothing - most of the time we only wear approximately 20% of our wardrobe. If you haven't worn it for 6 months or for a season, it's probably time to get rid of it. This includes shoes and outdoor wear.

Kitchens - it's refreshing to have a clean uncluttered kitchen. Start in the pantry, refrigerator and freezer throwing out anything that is out-of-date, stale or old.

Also consider getting rid of any cookware that you don't use on a regular basis, as well as utensils that are seldom used.

Bathrooms - rule of thumb what you don't use...lose! Get rid of the expired medicines and cosmetics.

Paper - many of us hang on to newspapers, books and magazines. A great suggestion is to donate the books and magazines to a hospital or charitable organization.

As for the filing cabinet and home office, recycle junk mail, old cards and shred old bills, receipts or personal papers that you don't need anymore (but remember Revenue Canada requires at least 6 years worth of taxation paperwork to be kept).
